A useful freight quote starts with a clear shipment brief. If your business sends palletised goods between Türkiye (Turkey) and Germany, pallet count alone does not describe the space, handling or delivery arrangements required. A few details supplied before booking can help avoid revised prices and collection problems.

/ 01Measure the finished load
Provide the number of pallets and the length, width and height of each loaded pallet, including its base and packaging. State gross weight per pallet as well as total shipment weight. If goods extend beyond the pallet edges, measure the full footprint.
Say whether the cargo is stackable and specify any limit on weight placed above it. A fragile machine and boxed components may occupy the same floor area but need different loading arrangements. Photographs can help explain unusual shapes or packaging; they do not replace measurements.
- Commodity: describe the actual goods, rather than writing only “general cargo”.
- Packaging: identify pallets, crates or other handling units.
- Special requirements: declare batteries, chemicals, temperature requirements or other handling restrictions before quotation.
/ 02Describe collection and delivery
Give both business addresses and postcodes. Include the cargo-ready date, loading hours and the receiving warehouse's delivery window. State whether each location has a loading dock or forklift, and whether a tail-lift vehicle or an appointment is required.
A city-to-city price cannot fully account for a restricted delivery site or a consignee that only accepts booked slots. Tell the forwarder about vehicle access restrictions and any fixed production deadline before choosing the service.
/ 03Compare groupage and dedicated capacity
Groupage shares vehicle capacity with other consignments and can suit smaller commercial shipments with flexible timing. Ask about the planned departure, handling stages and delivery arrangement. Do not assume that collection day is also the day the international journey begins.
A dedicated vehicle may be worth considering when handling restrictions, space requirements or a firm delivery deadline justify it. There is no universal pallet-count threshold: dimensions, weight, stackability and available capacity all affect the comparison.
Does the offer cover the same cargo, addresses, collection date and delivery conditions? A lower headline price is not a like-for-like comparison if one offer excludes a service your shipment needs.
/ 04Confirm the document responsibilities
Prepare the commercial invoice and packing list, and agree who will arrange export and import clearance. Share the agreed Incoterm and named place, and ask your customs representative to confirm the classification and documents applicable to the goods.
An A.TR movement certificate relates to free-circulation status under the EU–Türkiye Customs Union; it is not proof of origin. It should not be treated as a universal document for every product. The Turkish Ministry of Trade explains this distinction, while the European Commission outlines the scope of the trade arrangements. Confirm the requirements for your specific shipment before loading.
/ 05Check what the quote includes
- Collection, international transport and final delivery.
- Any quoted customs clearance services and any excluded duties or taxes.
- Tail-lift service, delivery appointments and special handling, where needed.
- Waiting time, storage or redelivery charges and when they may apply.
- Quote validity, estimated timing and whether delivery is an estimate or an agreed commitment.
- Whether cargo insurance is included or needs a separate request.
/ 06A brief you can send with your enquiry
Use the following outline for a shipment from Türkiye to Germany or from Germany to Türkiye:
- Company and contact: business name, contact person and email.
- Route: collection and delivery addresses, including postcodes.
- Cargo: description, pallet count, dimensions and gross weights.
- Handling: stackability, loading equipment and access restrictions.
- Timing: ready date, receiving hours and required delivery date.
- Commercial terms: agreed Incoterm and named place, clearance arrangements and insurance request.
If something is still unknown, identify it as provisional. Confirm final dimensions and weights before booking so the proposed transport matches the load that will actually be collected.
